Assistant Auditor General

Public sector experience and responsibilities

Doug joined the Office in 1989, and over the years has provided audit services to a broad range of public sector auditees. He was appointed to the position of Assistant Auditor General in 2003.

Doug is responsible for oversight of all audit work (both financial and value-for-money) in his ministry portfolio which includes:

  • Executive Council
  • Health—includes Alberta Health Services and Health Quality Council of Alberta
  • Human Services
  • Legislative Assembly and Officers of the Assembly
  • Seniors and Housing—Includes Alberta Social Housing Corporation

He works closely with the executive and oversight bodies of the organization he is associated with. He meets frequently with Board and Agency audit committees, and supports the Auditor General when meeting with the Public Accounts Committee of the Legislative Assembly and the Provincial Audit Committee.

Professional affiliations

Doug is a Certified Management Accountant (1991) and served as a volunteer on the Association's Practice Review Committee. Over the years, Doug has continued his education through various formal and informal training ranging in topics that include: leadership, governance, auditing, accounting and Canadian securities/investing.

He is a member and past chair of the Strategic Issues Group of the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors. The Council is an organization devoted to supporting the continued development of auditing methodology, practices and professional development. He is also a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, the CCAF-FCVI Inc., and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
